When it comes to helping, Paraguayan volunteers never hesitate to act. This October in Asunción, one of the largest and fastest mobilizations for Good Deeds Day in Paraguay (Día de las Buenas Acciones (DBA) en Paraguay) took place: the One More Run charity race to benefit the Hogar Esmeralda of Quyquyhó, a shelter for girls in vulnerable situations.

In collaboration with the Paraguayan sports brand One More and Villamorra Shopping, GDD Paraguay hosted a day of volunteering, solidarity through sport, fun, and environmental consciousness—all for a worthy cause.

Over 1,500 participants joined the race, using their steps to make a difference in the lives of the girls residing 180 km from Asunción. This was Paraguay’s first race organized under a Corporate Social Responsibility model by a national brand, supported by volunteers who contributed to its success.

The event was not just about running—it was a morning filled with smiles, energy, and awareness that positive mental health thrives on community, kindness, and shared moments of joy.

Impact Beyond the Race

The event showcased the growing culture of recreational running in Paraguay, with more people embracing both the physical and social benefits of the sport. Collaborating with One More provided an opportunity to introduce GDD’s mission and highlight the causes it supports.

Volunteer Power

The dedicated efforts of 55 volunteers were key to the success of the race, contributing 316 hours to tasks like assembling runner kits, distributing medals, managing hydration stations, and even classifying waste for recycling. Their work translated into monetary support for the shelter, thanks to a partnership with One More.

Environmental Awareness

Sustainability was at the heart of the event. Volunteers helped classify waste across the 5K and 10K circuits, collecting 36 large bags of recyclables and separating 7.5 kilograms of plastic caps. These caps were donated to LUCHA, an organization supporting children with cancer, enhancing the impact of the event even further.

A History of Support

This wasn’t GDD Paraguay’s first initiative for Hogar Esmeralda. Since 2022, the team has run a sustainable toy bank, selling donated toys at low-cost fairs to benefit the shelter. This project, titled “For a More Equitable World,” not only promotes recycling but also introduces children to the joy of giving through family volunteering activities.

In July, as part of a family volunteering day, the shelter’s girls enjoyed an arts-and-crafts workshop and a meal hosted by a local family, creating moments of connection and joy.

Looking Ahead

The One More Run opened new doors for GDD Paraguay, fostering partnerships with businesses and social groups for future projects. The team is already working toward more impactful initiatives for 2025, aiming to engage more volunteers and create lasting change.
